On September 6, 2025, a large-scale environmental campaign—a citywide cleanup day called "Clean City" —took place in the Nurshuak microdistrict of Shymkent's Abay district. The event aimed to improve sanitary conditions, beautify courtyards and streets, and foster environmental awareness among the population. Employees from various government agencies, municipal enterprises, and organizations participated in the campaign.
The cleanup day began with the participation of staff from the Abay District Akim's Office and the Abay Municipal State Institution. Their active work set an example for the other participants.
80 employees and 5 units of equipment from the district akim’s office and the Abay State Institution took part in the cleanup, thanks to which 6 tons of garbage were removed.
The Department of Employment and Social Protection of the Population sent 80 employees and 3 units of equipment , which collected and removed 5 tons of waste .
The city's Department of Culture, Language Development and Archives deployed 300 employees and 5 vehicles , which resulted in the removal of 6 tons of waste .
The Department of Tourism, External Relations and Creative Industries sent 15 employees and 1 unit of equipment , which allowed the area to be cleared of 2 tons of waste .
The Department of Passenger Transport and Highways brought in 20 employees and 1 piece of equipment , and they removed 3 tons of waste .
The Department of Agriculture and Veterinary Services allocated 20 employees and 1 vehicle , which collected 2 tons of garbage .
The largest contribution was made by the employees of the State Institution "Abai" together with KazStroyCapital LLP - 235 employees and 34 units of special equipment , which removed an impressive volume - 32 tons of waste .
In total, 750 people and 50 units of special equipment took part in the action, and the total volume of garbage removed amounted to 56 tons .
The cleanup day wasn't limited to trash collection alone. Other activities aimed at improving the area were also organized:
cutting down dry and hazardous trees, pruning old branches;
mowing grass and cleaning green areas;
washing roads and sidewalks;
cleaning up container sites;
carrying out sanitary disinfection.
As a result of these measures, it was possible to significantly improve the appearance of the microdistrict and create a more favorable living environment.
The "Clean City" cleanup day was not only practical but also educational. Its main goal was not only to clean up the area but also to draw residents' attention to the importance of environmental awareness.
Each participant contributed to the overall effort, which clearly demonstrated that a clean city depends on the efforts of every individual. Initiatives like these foster a sense of responsibility for the environment among the population.
Young people's participation in such events is especially valuable. By engaging students and schoolchildren, organizers instill in the younger generation a caring attitude toward nature and an understanding that ecology is the foundation of health and quality of life.

The organizers of the event noted that cleanup days will be held regularly. In addition to the cleanup, they plan to actively landscape the area, plant trees and shrubs, and install new trash cans and containers for waste separation.
In the future, it is also planned to involve more local residents so that everyone feels personally responsible for the cleanliness of the city.
