Learn how Shymkent revolutionized traffic flows with more than 200 smartmicro sensors and the city's Intelligent Transportation System.
In 2024, the city of Shymkent, Kazakhstan, took a major step toward smart urban mobility by implementing an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) using smartmicro sensor technology.
Problem: Rapid city growth and increasing traffic volumes have led to congestion and inefficient traffic management at key intersections.
Solution: In partnership with smartmicro, Shymkent implemented a scalable ITS, including:
more than 200 UMRR-11 Type 132 radar sensors for stop line monitoring, queue length assessment and vehicle counting;
integration with traffic light controllers for adaptive signal control;
Real-time traffic monitoring and rapid response to incidents.
Result: By the end of 2024, 244 intersections were connected to the system, which optimized traffic flows, increased traffic safety, and ensured faster response of emergency services.
