Vilnius, 17 September 2025 – A photo exhibition titled “Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament: The Path of Kazakhstan” was opened at the Seimas (Parliament) of the Republic of Lithuania. The exhibition is dedicated to Kazakhstan’s anti-nuclear history and the tragic legacy of the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Lithuania in cooperation with the Seimas’ Friendship Group with Kazakhstan. The opening was attended by members of parliament, experts, and representatives of non-governmental organizations.

Lithuanian MP and Head of the Seimas Friendship Group with Kazakhstan Julius Sabatauskas delivered a welcoming speech, noting: “Kazakhstan’s leadership in the anti-nuclear movement deserves special recognition from the international community. We highly value Astana’s contribution to overcoming the legacy of the Cold War, the political repressions of the Stalin era, and its support for victims of nuclear testing.”

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Timur Urazayev thanked the Lithuanian side for supporting Kazakhstan’s initiatives, emphasizing the importance of preserving historical memory and strengthening cooperation in promoting peace and security. He noted that the exhibition serves as a reminder of the enormous cost paid by Kazakhstan’s people and nature, and stands as a symbol of the country’s commitment to building a world free of nuclear weapons.

The exhibition features more than 20 photo reproductions that reveal the humanitarian and environmental consequences of testing at the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site. The display will be open to visitors in the Central Hall of the Seimas of Lithuania until 22 September of this year.
