150 tons of waste collected in Atyrau region as part of World Clean Up Day

A large-scale environmental cleanup event was held in Atyrau region in honor of World Clean Up Day, the Regional Communications Service reports.

Regional executive bodies, businesses, volunteers, youth organizations, environmental activists, and local residents participated in the event. More than 10,000 people participated, including from districts and rural areas.

The cleanup covered the area from the Samal to Saryozek microdistricts in Atyrau city, the area near the ring bridge in the Atyrau microdistrict, and all districts of the region. Approximately 150 tons of waste were collected and transported to specialized landfills.

World Clean Up Day is an international environmental movement that takes place annually in more than 180 countries. Over 18 million volunteers participate in the event, clearing natural areas of waste. In Kazakhstan, a traditional cleanup day is held on the third Saturday of September.

The event was organized by the Akimat of Atyrau region and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management.
