The heads of Kazakhstan, Brazil, Jordan, China, France and the Republic of South Africa, together with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), issued a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reported. KAZ.NUR.KZ .
According to the Ministry's website, in their statement, the heads of State expressed concern about the large-scale violations of international humanitarian law (IHL) in conflicts around the world and the resulting human suffering.
They called on all States and parties to armed conflicts to comply with the norms concerning the protection of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in particular civilians, civilian facilities, as well as medical and humanitarian workers. The heads of State also announced that a high-level global meeting dedicated to the preservation of virtue during the war will be organized in 2026.
This statement was made as part of the promotion of a Global Initiative to strengthen political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law. The initiative is aimed at developing practical recommendations to ensure stricter compliance with the IGF and was announced on September 27, 2024 in New York within the framework of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly during a meeting of the leadership of the Foreign Ministries of the six initiating countries and the ICRC.
Currently, 89 countries have officially joined the initiative, and more than 130 have participated in global and regional consultations on seven thematic areas.
The joint statement was published in the six official languages of the United Nations, as well as in Kazakh and Portuguese, in order to widely inform the world community.
