On September 24, Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Lebanon, Rasul Jumaly, met with the newly appointed Palestinian Ambassador to Lebanon, Mohammed Al-Asaad. During the warm conversation, both sides discussed the historical and current ties between the two countries. It was noted that Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was the first high-ranking Arab official to visit Kazakhstan after it declared sovereignty and expressed support for it. The Palestinian diplomat spoke of his people's suffering in the conflict with Israel, noting that the growing list of countries recognizing their statehood inspires great hope. Al-Asaad expressed gratitude for Astana's firm and fair position on a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue, including a speedy resolution of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
