Books by Kazakh Authors Donated to the National Library Foundation of Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, September 25, 2025- During his working trip to Rio de Janeiro, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Brazil, Bolat Nussupov, visited the National Library Foundation of Brazil and met with its President, Mr. Marco Lucchesi.

At the meeting, the Ambassador presented the project “Kazakh Library in Brazil”, aimed at promoting the works of Kazakh authors in the country and providing Brazilian readers with greater knowledge of Kazakhstan’s history, culture, art, and contemporary development. The parties discussed the possibility of holding joint events such as presentations and literary evenings, as well as establishing partnerships between the leading libraries of both countries.

Marco Lucchesi, in turn, presented to the Ambassador the history and current activities of the National Library Foundation of Brazil, recognized as the country’s main library, the largest in Latin America, and the seventh-largest collection in the world. He welcomed the implementation of the “Kazakh Library in Brazil” project, which fosters spiritual unity between the peoples of the two nations, and expressed his readiness for closer cooperation on matters of mutual interest.

At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Bolat Nussupov presented the President of the Foundation with books published under the “Kazakh Library” project, including several copies of the trilogy “The Nomads” by Ilyas Yessenberlin and the book “Words of Edification” by Abai Kunanbaiuly, in Portuguese. The historical value and practical importance of these works for the Kazakh people were highlighted.

Also present at the meeting was Professor Edelcio Americo of Fluminense University – Executive Director of the “Kazakhstan-Brazil” Friendship Forum and translator of the books published within the scope of the “Kazakh Library in Brazil” project.

The Library was founded in 1810 by the Portuguese King Dom Joao VI. Today, the collection of the National Library Foundation of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro exceeds 9 million items, including rare books, an extensive collection of maps and photographs, as well as the legal deposit of all publications printed in the country since 1907. The National Library is an important cultural and architectural landmark, and its vast collection is regarded as an invaluable heritage for Brazil and for the world.
