Kazakhstan and IPCC strengthen climate cooperation

Geneva, 26 September 2025 – Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization, Kairat Torebayev, held a meeting with Professor Jim Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The parties discussed key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IPCC in the context of global efforts to combat climate change. The discussion focused on promoting science-based climate policy, enhancing the capacity of Central Asian countries in climate research, and exploring opportunities for Kazakh experts to participate in the work of the IPCC.
Permanent Representative Mr.Torebayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement and to implementing national measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change, emphasizing the importance of scientific support from the IPCC for these efforts.
Professor Jim Skea encouraged Kazakhstan to actively engage national experts in IPCC author teams and working groups contributing to assessment and special reports, and expressed readiness to further strengthen collaboration within the IPCC framework and broader international scientific platforms.
