“Dawn of the Great Steppe” Becomes a Symbol of Cultural Connection Between Kazakhstan and Thailand

Bangkok, October 15, 2025 – On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Republic Day of Kazakhstan and the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty, the Embassy of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Thailand, in cooperation with the “Kazakhfilm” studio named after Shaken Aimanov, organized the premiere screening of the Kazakh historical film “Dawn of the Great Steppe” (Ұлы дала таңы) directed by Akan Satayev.

The screening took place at “Century The Movie Plaza” cinema and brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, international organizations, academic communities, Thai businesses, as well as friends and partners of the Embassy. The evening was filled with warmth and genuine interest in Kazakh cinema and the country’s rich history.

The film “Dawn of the Great Steppe” tells the story of Khan Kasym, son of Khan Zhanibek - one of the founders of the Kazakh Khanate. Set in the 15th-16th centuries, the story depicts the formation and flourishing of the state, when Khan Kasym succeeded in uniting fragmented tribes and strengthening the independence of the Great Steppe. The picture impresses with its scale, depth of historical narrative, and striking visual aesthetics.

In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Thailand Margulan Baimukhan emphasized that cultural cooperation plays an essential role in strengthening mutual understanding and fostering comprehensive partnership between Kazakhstan and Thailand. “Cinema holds a special place in cultural diplomacy. Through the art of film, we share with the world the history, traditions, and spiritual values of Kazakhstan, revealing the beauty of our land and the strength of our national spirit,” the Ambassador noted.

Representatives of the United Nations ESCAP highly praised the film, noting that “the story of Khan Kasym reveals not only Kazakhstan’s past but also the enduring values that continue to shape its statehood today - integrity, resilience, and trust.” According to them, the director successfully conveyed the spirit of the era, the grandeur of nomadic civilization, and the richness of Kazakh culture. Guests were especially impressed by the epic battle scenes, breathtaking landscapes, authentic costumes, and evocative music that immersed them in the atmosphere of the Great Steppe.

The screening of the patriotic film “Dawn of the Great Steppe” became a highlight of Bangkok’s cultural scene and another step toward deepening mutual understanding and multifaceted cooperation between Kazakhstan and Thailand.
