The Embassy gratefully accepted the invitation to attend the ceremonial opening of the unique national cuisine restaurant Alma-Ata in the city of Rotterdam. The event was dedicated to Kazakhstan’s main holiday – the Republic Day, marking the 35th anniversary of the Declaration of State Sovereignty, which symbolizes the nation’s path toward statehood, unity, and national revival.

The project was initiated by Zhanna Adambekova and Aleina Buyankara, active members of the Kazakh diaspora in the Netherlands, who implemented the idea of a Pop-up restaurant combining national traditions, modern style, and an atmosphere of open cultural dialogue. In the spirit of nomadic hospitality, the gracious hosts offered guests the opportunity to taste well-known dishes, including baursaks and beshbarmak, as well as appetizers and desserts that reflect the uniqueness and diversity of Kazakh cuisine. The ambiance of the hall was complemented by folk music and traditional attire representing the peoples of the Great Steppe.

For the participants, a tour was organized through the halls of the newly opened Fenix Museum of Migration, showcasing the evolution of diverse societies where tolerance and peaceful coexistence of ethnic and religious communities are of special value.

Currently, the restaurant is operating temporarily as part of the World Cuisines Month in Rotterdam. We wish our compatriots great success in realizing their ideas, which make a valuable contribution to strengthening the cultural ties between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands.
