In his September 8, 2025, Address, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan has learned profound lessons from the Aral Sea tragedy and has been systematically working to restore it for over two decades. Thanks to these measures, the Northern Aral Sea has been preserved: its surface area has increased by 36%, its water volume has almost doubled, and this has reduced mineralization levels.

The head of state emphasized the need to actively continue work to raise the water level in the Aral Sea.

The President also noted that the fate of the Caspian Sea is a matter not for one country, but for the entire region. In this regard, he instructed that an interstate program for preserving the Caspian's water resources be developed in close cooperation with partner countries.
