Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Held Talks with U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau

Astana, October 29, 2025 – Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
Prime Minister Bektenov emphasized that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev attaches particular importance to the development of cooperation with the United States. He noted that this meeting represents an important step toward further strengthening the trade and economic potential of bilateral relations. The Government of Kazakhstan is implementing systemic measures aimed at creating favorable conditions for foreign, including American, businesses.
According to the National Bank of Kazakhstan, the gross inflow of direct investment from the United States has totaled around $61.2 billion since 1993, accounting for over 13% of total FDI in Kazakhstan. Over the past five years, the volume of bilateral trade has doubled, reaching $4.2 billion.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to expand trade and investment cooperation. They reviewed measures to deepen collaboration in industry, digitalization, energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, and water management, among other sectors.
New areas of cooperation in the transit and transport sphere were highlighted. In the energy sector, the sides underlined the importance of modernization and the introduction of advanced technologies within joint projects. Agricultural cooperation was identified as another key area of partnership.
The parties also emphasized the priority of deepening interaction in the digital industry and artificial intelligence. A key regional platform in this regard is the Alem.AI International Center for Artificial Intelligence, which brings together leading global technology companies, including Apple, Google, and others. Another important element of Kazakhstan’s digital ecosystem is Astana Hub, currently home to more than 1,700 companies. In the U.S. state of California, Kazakhstan has also established the Silk Road Innovation Center. In partnership with leading American companies and universities, the center implements acceleration programs that strengthen technological cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants reaffirmed their commitment to expanding trade and economic cooperation across all promising areas.
