November 7, 2025, Nairobi – The delegation of Kazakhstan, consisting of the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Kenya, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN Office at Nairobi B.Sadykov, Deputy Director of the Multilateral Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan A.Sarmantay and the head of the International Law Program at Maqsut Narikbayev University A.Smagulova, participated in the 37th Meeting of the Parties (MOP37) to the Montreal Protocol of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer.

The participants of the Meeting discussed issues of achieving the goals of the Montreal Protocol, including the replenishment of the Multilateral Fund for the period 2027-2029, hydrofluorocarbon-23 (HFC-23) emissions, strengthening regional atmospheric monitoring of substances, national and regional initiatives to support the implementation of the Kigali Amendment, and further strengthening of the institutions of the Montreal Protocol.

In its speech, the delegation of Kazakhstan noted the country's commitment to fulfilling its obligations under international agreements related to the protection of the ozone layer and the global climate. It was emphasized that Kazakhstan is making efforts to achieve common goals and strives to uphold the values ​​of partnership, inclusiveness and mutual respect that guide the Montreal Protocol.

During the meeting of the participants of the Meeting, Kazakhstan was elected by consensus for the first time as a member of the Executive Committee of the Multilateral Fund of the Montreal Protocol.

Information: The Montreal protocol is one of the most successful international environmental agreements. It has achieved universal ratification, successfully reduced production of more than 98% of ozone-depleting substances and prevented significant greenhouse gas emissions.

The Executive Committee consists of 14 member states of the Montreal Protocol. The Executive Committee meets twice a year to present, study, agree on and report on projects implemented under the Montreal Protocol.
