The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Fund (FFUN SDG) is a structure that is part of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The fund is preparing for closer cooperation with Kazakhstan. To this end, it plans to sign a memorandum with the engineering and consulting company ILF Kazakhstan. As explained by FFUN SDG President Maurizio Aronica, the fund's area of interest is supporting and promoting sustainable development projects in Kazakhstan and the Eurasian region until 2030.
The UN wants to work with Kazakhstan to promote initiatives in the areas of sustainable development, energy transition, infrastructure, and education. Attention will be paid to innovative and environmentally responsible solutions that are consistent with Kazakhstan's plans for green growth and life in the context of climate change. It will also include scientific cooperation, work with industrial enterprises, and government agencies. This includes the FFUN SDG “New Sustainable Silk Road” initiative, which focuses on the green economy and infrastructure.
Moreover, the signing of this bilateral agreement should lead to the creation of a special “green” hub – a platform for innovation, knowledge sharing, and coordination of initiatives focused on sustainable development.
It is worth noting that energy and climate initiatives have long been a focus of the UN. Among the top priorities are reducing harmful emissions, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and improving energy efficiency. FFUN SDG actively promotes this agenda through projects at the local, national, and international levels. In Kazakhstan, the fund's ideas will be adapted to contexts that fit its agenda. For its part, FFUN SDG is taking on the task of finding partners, support from international organizations, and attracting grants.
