President of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gennadiy Golovkin has been appointed as Chair of a new Olympic Commission by World Boxing, Olympic.kz reports.

As Chair of the new Commission, Head of the NOC Kazakhstan, will focus on working with international sports organizations in matters of ensuring transparency of World Boxing activities. He will also work closely with the International Olympic Committee on World Boxing’s recognition and preserving boxing in the Olympic Games programme.

“For me personally, as well as for Kazakhstan and all the sports world, it is important to keep Olympic Boxing, and this will be my top priority. Together with the IOC we will strengthen boxing's commitment to the Olympic values of honesty, fairness and transparency.

I am confident my experience as a professional athlete will help build systemic work within World Boxing, and through joint efforts we will be able to give boxing a new impetus to its development, but there is still much to be done.” – emphasized Golovkin.

World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst noted that cooperation with Gennadiy Golovkin will help to effectively achieve the goals set for the organization.

“As leader with a hugely successful career in both Olympic-style and professional boxing, Gennadiy deeply and completely understands why continuing to be part of the Olympic Movement is so vital to the ongoing success of boxing at every level, from the grassroots to the professional ranks. I look forward to work shoulder to shoulder with him in delivering our mission.” – said Boris van der Vorst.

It is worth noting that Gennadiy Golovkin’s candidacy was one of the first to be approved by World Boxing. In the nearest future the Olympic Commission will be reinforced by other representatives from the world of sport, called upon to jointly implement a large-scale plan to keep boxing at the center of the Olympic Movement.

World Boxing is the International Boxing Federation created in April 2023. At the moment, it includes National Federations from 44 countries.
