In military unit 5510 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan serves a soldier about whom people say: “He sings the way he lives — sincerely.” Private Äli Älimzhan from the Zhambyl region not only fulfills his military duty — he fills it with music.

Äli was born in the village of Kyzyl Sharua in the Turar Ryskulov district. He was an excellent student throughout school and moved to Astana after graduating from the 11th grade. There, he worked as a cook — and often sang in restaurants.

“Music is a conversation with the soul. When I sing, it feels like I share a part of myself,” he says.

In the summer of 2025, Äli Älimzhan’s life took a new turn — from cook and singer to serviceman, joining the ranks of military unit 5510 in Kokshetau.

His unit patrols various districts of the city.

“Service is going well. We go on duty four times a week. I like Kokshetau — it’s a calm city,” the soldier shares.

Private Älimzhan grew up in a large family. His father is a former serviceman, now retired. His mother is a teacher at their local school. His three older brothers have families of their own, and his younger sister recently graduated from school.

“My father always said: ‘Service builds character.’ He is my example of courage and unwavering will,” the soldier says proudly.

Älimzhan learned to play the guitar on his own, without formal musical education. He writes songs when inspiration strikes. His original composition “Ğasyrlyq Muñ” (“The Grief of a Century”) reflects on time, love, and strength of spirit. His favorite artists include Kazbek Kuraiysh, Moldanazar, and Ernar Amandyk. Among actors, he admires Dauren Sergazin and Erkebulan Daiyrov.

Today, Äli is already building plans for the future. After completing his conscript service, he intends to remain on contract to continue his path as part of a military orchestra. He considers making music in uniform a proud and noble mission. The soldier also admits he dreams of having a family — of one day meeting the right person and making the right choice.

To serve, to sing, to inspire — this is the path of Private Äli Älimzhan. His voice resonates in the ranks, and his songs live in the hearts of those around him.
