Kazakhstan deposited Convention No. 131 concerning Minimum Wage Fixing with Special Reference to Developing Countries

Ambassador E.Kazykhan, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, and International Labor Organization’s Director-General G.Houngbo took part in the ceremony of the Republic of Kazakhstan's deposit of Convention No. 131 concerning Minimum Wage Fixing with Special Reference to Developing Countries.
In his speech, Ambassador E. Kazykhan emphasised that the ratification of the convention demonstrates Kazakhstan's firm commitment to establishing effective minimum wage fixing machinery based on transparent criteria that consider the needs of workers and their families. He added that this step is an important part of the country's state policy, confirming its determination to improving the level of social protection for workers.
The ILO Director-General G.Houngbo noted that Kazakhstan's ratification of the convention constitutes a significant contribution to the implementation of international labour standards. According to him, it will advance the further development of national mechanisms for protecting workers and strengthening social dialogue between the government, employers' associations, and workers' associations.
For reference: The law on the ratification of Convention No. 131 was signed by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on 20 October 2025. Following the deposit ceremony, the agreement will enter into force for our country in one year. Kazakhstan is the 57th state which ratified the convention.
