A 52-year-old resident of the Abai region, driving along a mountain slope, noticed a wild marijuana plant.

              The man tore it off, brought it home and stored the narcotic drug in the garage for personal use. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to community service for a period of sixty hours.

          After the verdict came into force, the convict was registered with the Ayaguz district probation service. Upon registration, educational and legal explanatory work was carried out with him, aimed at the formation of law-abiding behavior and the prevention of repeated offenses.

            To fulfill the punishment imposed by the court, the man was employed in the Ayaguz district cultural center as a handyman. Currently, he is engaged in cleaning the territory, clearing snow and performing other socially useful work under the supervision of probation officers.

           — I fully realized that I had made a serious mistake. At that moment, I didn't think about the consequences, but today I realize that I broke the law and let down my loved ones. I have a family, a wife and two children, and I am ashamed in front of them for this act. Working with the probation service has helped me rethink my behavior and draw the right conclusions. Community service has become an opportunity for me to redeem myself and prove, first of all, to myself that I can live a law-abiding life. I sincerely repent and intend to continue to strictly comply with the requirements of the law so that this does not happen again," the convict shared.

              — The main purpose of the probation service is to promote the rehabilitation of convicts and their re—socialization. Community service and preventive work help to form a responsible attitude towards the law and prevent repeated offenses," said Ermek Kaliev, head of the Ayaguz district Probation service.
