The construction of a new 200-bed city perinatal center No. 2 has officially begun in Shymkent. A capsule-laying ceremony was held at the construction site of the future facility in Akzhaiyk microdistrict. The event was attended by Shymkent city mayor Gabit Syzdykbekov.
During the ceremony, the head of the metropolis noted the social importance of the project and its role in the development of the city's healthcare system.
"The construction of a modern perinatal center is an investment in the health of future generations. Our main task is to create comfortable and safe conditions for mothers and newborns, ensuring access to high-quality and high-tech medical care," said Gabit Syzdykbekov.
It is worth noting that the project is being implemented within the framework of the instructions of the Head of State and is aimed at strengthening the maternal and child protection system. The need to build a new medical facility is associated with the constant growth of the city's population.
Shymkent is a consistently high-birth-rate region in the country. Currently, the city's population exceeds 1.29 million people. Over the past three years, the number of children has increased by about 10%, reaching 500 thousand people. According to forecasts, by 2035 the population of the metropolis may exceed 1.85 million people.
Currently, four specialized medical institutions in the city, with a total of 508 obstetric beds, are operating at an overload rate. The average load exceeds the regulatory rate and is 106 percent.
Taking into account the demographic growth of the population, a decision was made to build a Level III perinatal center that will provide medical care in accordance with international standards. The new center will be equipped with modern high-tech medical equipment and will significantly expand the possibilities of specialized care for pregnant women and newborns.
The implementation of the project will reduce the burden on existing medical institutions, increase the availability of perinatal care, and reduce maternal and infant mortality. The new perinatal center will be one of the main social projects in the healthcare sector of Shymkent and an important step towards the formation of a modern medical infrastructure.
