At a maximum-security facility of the Criminal Executive System Committee in the Abai Region, a state registration of marriage was held between two convicted individuals.
The procedure was carried out in strict compliance with the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and in full observance of the established detention regime. The official registration of the marriage was conducted by an employee of the Civil Registry Office of the city of Semey in the presence of representatives of the facility’s administration.
According to one of the convicted individuals, the decision to start a family was made several years ago. At that time, he had already been sentenced to nine years of imprisonment. It later became known that a child was born, who is now almost two years old. Despite initial objections from the spouse’s relatives, the convicted man maintained contact with them and managed to convince them of the seriousness of his intentions. Eventually, all parties reached an agreement, and the marriage was officially registered.
Deputy Head of the facility Aydyn Kalelov noted that marriages in places of detention are an important part of educational and social work with convicted individuals.
“Starting a family helps preserve social ties, fosters a sense of responsibility, and serves as an incentive for law-abiding behavior, which is one of the factors contributing to the rehabilitation of convicted individuals,” he emphasized.
