Today, at an expanded meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a closing speech, outlining the main priorities of Kazakhstan in the period of global economic turmoil and the key tasks facing the Government. Noting the worsening global situation, the President said that increasing the country's socio-economic and international potential is the main goal at the current stage.
According to the Head of State, experts predict that the growth of the world economy will slow down, and the volume of international trade and investments directed to developing countries will decrease. Many countries have strengthened measures to protect their markets and resorted to tariff restrictions. The reverse course of globalization is radically changing the geopolitical situation. In such a situation, timely adaptation to external changes is a task of strategic importance for Kazakhstan.
The President openly stated that the effectiveness of previous economic approaches has decreased. Noting that advanced countries have begun to develop new economic models, he stressed that Kazakhstan should not be left out of this process. To protect the interests of the nation, a specific and effective plan for strengthening the economy is needed. The Head of State noted that despite global instability, the economy of Kazakhstan grew by 6.5 percent last year.
However, the main issue for the President is the quality of growth. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that economic growth should primarily increase the well-being of the population. The growth of gross domestic product should be directly related to the increase in the real income of citizens. This is the main task of the Government.
To achieve this goal, the President proposed a transition to a sustainable growth model. Such a model involves clearly defining the strategic directions of economic development by the state and directing financial resources to key areas that will bring growth. This approach will allow for a more fair and effective distribution of national income to society. The Head of State noted that extensive work is ahead to modernize economic and financial policy.
The President named the immediate tasks of the Government as increasing labor productivity, technological innovation, and developing human capital. Revitalizing investment policy and consistently protecting the interests of business should be the main pillars of the new economic model. The ultimate result of this policy should be increasing people's income and strengthening the country's economic independence.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that mass digitization and the introduction of artificial intelligence should not be an auxiliary tool for the economy, but its main driving force. Digitalization based on artificial intelligence should be aimed at increasing labor productivity, developing export-oriented sectors, producing high-value-added products, and integrating Kazakhstan into the global digital economy chain. The President emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence should become an important pillar not only of economic ideology, but also of national ideology.
The Head of State also paid special attention to the issue of inflation. He said that reducing inflation to a reasonable, normal level is an urgent task of the Government and the National Bank. The President warned that empty words and fruitless "road maps" in this direction would not be tolerated, and instructed to develop a specific and effective algorithm of action. Concrete measures aimed at reducing inflation should be taken in the next three years.
Summing up his speech, the President noted that the entire state apparatus must work for concrete results. The main criterion of state policy is the increase in income and improvement of the living standards of the population. Only in this case will the effectiveness of the decisions taken and the correct direction of the country's development become clear.
