Nauryz Celebration Held at the United Nations Headquarters

New York, 18 March 2026 – An official event dedicated to the celebration of Nauryz was held at the United Nations Headquarters. The event was organized by the Permanent Missions of the Central Asian states.

In his remarks, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Kairat Umarov, noted that Nauryz is an integral part of the cultural heritage of the countries of the region, embodying the values of renewal, good neighbourliness and unity. In the context of current global challenges, the holiday gains particular significance, contributing to the strengthening of dialogue, mutual understanding and international cooperation.

He also highlighted the nationwide referendum held in Kazakhstan on 15 March this year, describing it as an important milestone reflecting the country’s commitment to political modernization and the strengthening of democratic institutions. Similar to Nauryz, the referendum symbolizes renewal, progress and the aspiration towards a more just and inclusive society.

As part of the cultural programme, Kazakhstan was represented by the “Alqissa” children’s folklore ensemble  with a musical and theatrical performance titled “The Golden Man”.

An exhibition was also organized within the framework of the event, showcasing the culture and national heritage of the Central Asian states, including traditional handicrafts and musical instruments.
