An open day for relatives of convicts was held at the secondary security institution of the DUIS in the Abai region.

Such events have been held for many years, and the administration of the institution pays special attention to their organization, since maintaining socially useful ties is one of the key factors on the way to correcting convicts. On this day, the institution was visited by more than forty relatives, including four children.                 For many families, this has become a long-awaited opportunity to see their sons and husbands, communicate with them personally, and also get acquainted with the conditions in which they are serving their sentences. In addition, the relatives were able to ask the administration representatives the questions they were concerned about and get detailed answers to them. The open day has become one of the most touching and joyful events for the convicts and their loved ones. Many have not seen each other for years, and this meeting gave them vivid emotions, support and faith in the future.

          — Six years ago, I was sentenced to fifteen years in prison for a crime I committed. During this time, my life here went on as usual, and my son was born outside the walls of the institution. He turned five today, and all these years I've only seen him in photos and via video. This is the first day when I was able to hug my child, look into his eyes and personally say, "Happy birthday, son." To hold him in my arms, to feel his warmth and smile is impossible to put into words. I promised myself and him that after we were released, we would always celebrate this day together. I am eternally grateful to my wife, who has been supporting me all these years, raising our son alone and doing everything so that he remembers his father," the convict shared.

          — Open days are an important part of educational work. They help convicts keep in touch with their families, feel the support of their loved ones, and think about their future once again. It is important for us that relatives see the conditions of detention and understand that the main goal of our work is to correct a person and return him to society," said Zhasulan Arinov, deputy head of the institution.
