A literary challenge titled “BOOKGUARD” has been launched in military unit 5574 of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Turkestan. The initiative is aimed at developing a reading culture among servicemen. Participants have passed the challenge baton to their fellow servicemen in other military units of the law enforcement troops.

As part of the project, servicemen are encouraged to read at least three books during their period of conscript service, taking into account their personal interests and moral and psychological condition.

Additionally, a dedicated section with audiobooks has been introduced on the National Guard’s information portal, making literature more accessible in a convenient format. As a result, units have reported an increase in the number of servicemen who regularly engage in reading.

The key platform for the project is the library of military unit 5574, operating on the basis of Mobile Point No. 6 of the Turkestan Regional Universal Library “Farab.” Today, more than 100 regular readers are registered there, indicating a strong interest in reading among personnel.

The library collection consists of 1,130 books, including fiction, historical, military-patriotic, and popular science literature, as well as periodicals. Servicemen have the opportunity to freely choose books and broaden their horizons.

To encourage reading activity, a reward system has been introduced. Servicemen compete in categories such as “Reader of the Month,” “Reading Leader,” “Library Activist,” and “Reader of the Year.”

At the end of the year, the best readers present the books they have read to a commission, receive a badge of distinction, and have their photos displayed on a special board.

The “BOOKGUARD” project fosters a sustainable reading culture among National Guard servicemen and contributes to their intellectual and personal development.
