A 42-year-old resident of Kyzylzhar District in the North Kazakhstan Region found himself on the wrong side of the law: he was convicted under Article 296, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the illegal production, possession, and transportation of narcotic substances in large quantities. During a search, more than 250 grams of marijuana were seized from him. The court sentenced him to 80 hours of community service.

The man is now working for the benefit of his native village: cleaning streets, maintaining public areas, and participating in the improvement of communal spaces.

“Community service helps individuals understand responsibility for their actions, contribute positively to society, and change their way of life”,- note probation service officials.

The convict is under constant supervision, preventive talks are conducted, and the main goal is to prevent repeated offenses. This example shows that even after committing a serious crime, there is a chance to return to a law-abiding life.
