A chess tournament among convicts was held at the maximum Security facility of the Department of the Penal Correction System in the Abai region, organized as part of programs for socialization and the development of socially useful activities.

           Murat Okasov, a judge of the national category of the Republic of Kazakhstan, coach of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the city of Semey, was invited as the chief judge.

            More than 50 convicts took part in the competition. The tournament was held in accordance with the approved regulations, in compliance with all safety requirements and the established procedure. The participants demonstrated a high level of preparation, concentration and respect for their rivals.

           According to the results of the competitions, the winners and prize-winners were determined, who were awarded diplomas. The best participants were also awarded by the institution's management for their active lifestyle and commitment to self-development.

           - Chess is a logical and strategic game that teaches you to think, plan and make decisions, develops memory, attention and patience. This game helps a person become stronger not only at the board, but also in life. I believe that chess should become a useful habit for convicts," said Murat Okasov, a judge of the national category of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

          - Such competitions help us to get away from everyday worries, learn to concentrate and believe in ourselves. Chess provides an opportunity to develop and maintain internal discipline," the convict noted.

           - Such initiatives contribute to the formation of constructive interaction skills among convicts, the development of responsibility and the ability to make informed decisions, which is an important factor in successful social adaptation after release. The institution systematically implements cultural and leisure, educational and sports projects aimed at shaping law-abiding behavior and reducing the rate of recidivism," said Aydin Kalelov, Deputy head of the institution.
