“New Dynamics of Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan Relations: What Comes After the Bukhara Summit?” (Round Table)

On April 18, 2026, a round table titled “New Dynamics of Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan Relations: What Comes After the Bukhara Summit?” was held at the International Institute for Central Asia with the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Uzbekistan.
The event focused on discussing the current state and future prospects of relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the context of implementing the agreements reached following the recent informal meeting of the Heads of State in Bukhara.
The discussion brought together representatives of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, think tanks and expert circles, as well as media representatives.
The Kazakh side was represented by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, Beibut Atamkulov, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhandos Shaimardanov, and Senior Expert of the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Valeriy Sitenko.
The speakers noted with satisfaction the steady positive dynamics of multifaceted cooperation covering political, trade and economic, investment, transport and logistics, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres.
Particular attention was paid to the practical implementation of previously reached agreements, expansion of industrial cooperation, and strengthening of transport connectivity and the region’s transit potential.
Ambassador B. Atamkulov emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent and sustainable course in developing bilateral cooperation, highlighting its significance for the entire Central Asian region.
Experts, in turn, underscored the outcomes of the Bukhara talks, which gave additional impetus to deepening allied relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. They also stressed the importance of continuing regular expert dialogue to ensure timely responses to emerging challenges and effective use of new opportunities for regional cooperation.
Following the round table, participants expressed confidence in the continued progressive development of Kazakhstan–Uzbekistan relations and reaffirmed their readiness to deepen cooperation across all key areas.
