New York, April 17, 2026 - From April 13 to 17, the 59th session of the UN Commission on Population and Development took place in New York.
The UN Commission on Population and Development serves as a global platform where countries and international experts join forces to address a wide range of demographic issues, social policies, and the overall achievement of the global Sustainable Development Goals. The main theme of the current session is "Population, technology, and research in the context of sustainable development."
In its statement, the delegation of Kazakhstan noted that the focus of the current session aligns with the country's development vector. Today, Kazakhstan, with a population of 20.3 million, has a distinctly young demographic profile, with an average age of 31. The primary objective of the state is to unlock the colossal potential of this generation. With approximately 360,000 young professionals expected to enter the labor market annually over the next decade, the country is prioritizing investments in human capital.
To effectively manage these processes and overcome regional imbalances, Kazakhstan has set a course toward high technologies. A Center for Demographic Analysis and Forecasting is being established in the country, which will leverage the capabilities of artificial intelligence and Big Data for strategic planning. Furthermore, a transition to a fully digital population census is planned by 2030.
Kazakhstan's active participation in this forum provided an opportunity to align with advanced global standards, discuss innovative practices in the field of demography, and reinforce its status as a modern and open state.
