Development of the Middle Corridor in the focus of negotiations between Kazakhstan and Slovenia

Ljubljana, 23 April 2026 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Slovenia, Altay Abibullayev, held a meeting with the Director General of the Directorate of Aviation and Maritime Transport of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Slovenia Mr. Tomaž Pečnik, during which the parties discussed the prospects for the development of Kazakh-Slovenian cooperation in the field of transport, logistics and transit.
A.Abibullayev noted that the development of transport infrastructure is one of the key priorities of state policy, implementing large-scale projects to modernize railway, automobile, port and aviation infrastructure, forming a modern multimodal transport and logistics system.
Special attention was paid to the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, which runs through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, the South Caucasus and Turkey, being the shortest route between Asia and Europe. It was emphasized that this route is gaining strategic importance in the context of the transformation of global logistics and the growth of cargo flows.
In this regard, the prospects of cooperation with the Slovenian port of Luka Koper as one of the key logistics hubs of the Adriatic region were discussed. The Kazakh diplomat suggested considering the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the port of Koper and relevant organizations of Kazakhstan, as well as organizing a visit of the port's management to Kazakhstan. The parties confirmed their interest in continuing the expert dialogue and developing practical cooperation, including the participation of national operators and business structures.
The Slovenian side, in turn, emphasized the role of the Ministry of Infrastructure in shaping transport policy, developing aviation and maritime communications, as well as supporting multimodal transport corridors. T.Pečnik noted the importance of combining EU initiatives, including the Global Gateway program, with the transit potential of Kazakhstan.
Special attention was paid to the possibilities of cooperation with the Slovenian Sovereign Holding (SDH), which plays a key role in managing strategic assets, including transport infrastructure.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in expanding cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, developing sustainable multimodal routes and strengthening ties between Europe and Asia through Kazakhstan and Slovenia.
