April 26 marks the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

On the eve of this significant date, a solemn event dedicated to the memory of veterans and victims who took part in the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster was held in the Samara region. A ceremony of laying flowers was organized in the Veterans ' Park, where the memorial sign of CHAES is located. The event was attended by the leadership of the Samara region, veterans, elders, schoolchildren who took part in the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, as well as close relatives of deceased veterans-liquidators. The event began with a minute of silence dedicated to the memory of those who died in the accident and participants in the elimination of the consequences of the accident who died in subsequent years. Today, 8 veterans who took part in the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster live in the Samara region. Each of them is citizens who deserve special respect and gratitude from society. — You did not just perform professional duties-it was a mission to save lives, protect future generations. Thanks to this, it was possible to avoid even more serious consequences. Your feat will forever remain in history as a high example of faithful service to humanity, - said Deputy akim of the district Zhaslan Maykenev. He also presented Jubilee medals to the veterans and wished them good health, happiness, well-being and long life.
