Ambassador of Kazakhstan visits the city of Struga

Struga, April 30, 2026 – The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to North Macedonia, Satybaldy Burshakov, paid a visit to the city of Struga.

During a meeting with the Mayor of the city, Mendi Qyra, the parties discussed opportunities for developing cooperation, with a particular focus on cultural exchange and tourism development.

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan also expressed readiness to establish trade and economic cooperation as well as sister-city relations between the regions of the two countries. Furthermore, the possibility of establishing an institute of honorary consul was discussed.

Mr. Burshakov briefed the Mayor on the main directions of political and socio-economic development of Kazakhstan, as well as the prospects for expanding Kazakh-Macedonian cooperation.

Mr. Kira presented the activities of the municipality, its history, the economic potential of the region, and familiarized the Ambassador with current projects being implemented by the municipality and its natural resources. He noted that the Municipality of Struga is always open to international cooperation and partnerships that would contribute to the development and promotion of the city.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the possibility of Kazakhstan's participation in the annual event — the "Struga Poetry Evenings," which will take place from June 24 to 29 of this year.

At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador thanked the Mayor for the warm reception and presented him "The Book of Words" (Words of Edification) by the great Kazakh poet, Abai Kunanbayev.

For reference: Struga is a picturesque small resort town in the southwest of North Macedonia (population approximately 50,000), located on the northern shore of Lake Ohrid, 15 km from the oldest and most tourist-popular Macedonian city of Ohrid. Struga has been known since the 11th century. Its multi-ethnic population includes Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Vlachs, Roma, Serbs, and Bosniaks.

Every year, Struga hosts Europe's largest poetry festival, the "Struga Poetry Evenings," founded in 1962. Struga combines the characteristics of a historic city and a popular summer resort.
