Kazakhstan Hosts Official Reception on the Margins of the ITU Council Session

Geneva, 8 May 2026 – On the margins of the session of the ITU Council, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the WTO hosted an official reception in support of Kazakhstan's candidature for the ITU Council for the 2027–2030 term and the re-election of Kazakhstan's representative Rizat Nurshabekov to the Radio Regulations Board.

The reception was attended by ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Deputy Secretary-General Tomas Lamanauskas, heads of delegations of ITU Council Member States, as well as representatives of telecommunications administrations and the diplomatic community.

Welcome addresses were delivered by Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the WTO Kairat Torebayev and Vice Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Dmitriy Mun. In their remarks, they presented Kazakhstan's digital priorities and achievements, as well as the country's readiness to contribute more actively to the work of the ITU upon election to the Council.

ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin commended Kazakhstan's significant progress in digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and highlighted the country's strong engagement in advancing the international digital agenda.

The reception provided an opportunity for informal consultations with Member State delegations. Elections to the ITU governing bodies will take place at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in 2026.
