Kazakhstan Participates in the ITU Council Session in Geneva

Geneva, 30 April 2026 – The annual session of the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the key governing body of the organization composed of 48 Member States, is taking place in Geneva.

During the session, participants are addressing a wide range of issues, including strategic and financial matters of the ITU, the development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, strengthening cybersecurity, bridging the digital divide, as well as preparations for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026.

The session is attended by the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed by Mr. Doszhan Mussaliyev, Vice Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, as well as Mr. Kairat Torebayev, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the WTO and other International Economic Organizations in Geneva.

Kazakhstan is currently participating in the Council as an observer and has put forward its candidacy for election to the ITU Council for the 2027–2030 term.

In his statement, Vice Minister Mussaliyev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the ITU transformation process, the development of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, and emphasized the importance of more inclusive and balanced participation of Member States in the work of the Union. He also highlighted the role of ITU’s regional presence in bridging the digital divide and confirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to contribute more actively to the work of the Union and to strengthening international cooperation.

On the margins of the Council, the Kazakh delegation held a number of bilateral meetings, during which prospects for cooperation and issues related to interaction in the context of the upcoming ITU elections were discussed.
