Kazakh Delegation Participates in the 2nd Narowal Peace Dialogue

Narowal, May 5-6, 2026 – The 2nd Narowal Peace Dialogue, initiated by the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives of Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, was held in Narowal on May 5-6, 2026.
The event brought together politicians, scholars and theologians from Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan and the United States. Among the distinguished participants were former Prime Minister of Morocco H.E. Prof. Dr. Saad Dine El Otmani, President of Al-Zaytuna University of Tunisia Prof. Dr. Abdellatif Bouazizi, General Secretary of International Forum for Moderation of Jordan Mr. Marwan Awwad Nwairan Alfaroodi, Founding Chairman of Centre for Indian Subcontinent Studies MAVERA Foundation from Türkiye Mr. Abdulhamit Birisik, President of the International Quran Research Association (IQRA) of the United States Sheikh Prof. Dr. Safi Kaskas, Asia Area Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Mr. Kelly R. Johnason, President of the International Islamic University Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed and others.
Kazakhstan was represented by a delegation of the International Center for Interfaith and Interreligious Dialogue headed by the Chairperson of the Board, Ms. Gulsana Kozhabay.
In addition, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Pakistan H.E. Mr. Yerzhan Kistafin attended the forum as a Guest of Honor.
Overall, the participants emphasized the timeliness and importance of this initiative aimed at strengthening peaceful dialogue.
In her remarks, Ms. G. Kozhabay highlighted the importance of sustainable interreligious dialogue for preventing conflicts and strengthening mutual understanding between cultures. She noted that over the past 20 years, the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions has become a unique platform for maintaining dialogue even amid global polarization. It was also emphasized that the International Center continues to work on practical initiatives, including issues related to climate change and the ethics of artificial intelligence in the religious sphere.
For his part, Ambassador Y. Kistafin noted that Kazakhstan and Pakistan have long been partners in implementing such initiatives. In particular, Pakistan is an active participant in the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, as well as the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, both aimed at strengthening peaceful dialogue.
In his speech, the Ambassador also informed the participants about the key outcomes of the state visit of the President of Kazakhstan H.E.Mr. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Pakistan on February 3-4 this year, highlighting the agreements reached and the importance of jointly promoting similar projects in the future.
On the sidelines of the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the International Center for Interfaith and Interreligious Dialogue and the University of Narowal.
The Embassy of Kazakhstan expresses its gratitude to the Vice Chancellor of the University of Narowal, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zia ul Haq, for the hospitality extended to the Kazakh delegation and for the high level of organization of the event.
