A musical and literary evening entitled “Poetry and Music of the West and the East – from Central Europe to Central Asia” took place at the historic Lobkowicz Palace in Prague. The event was organised by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Czech Republic in cooperation with Aiken Aitbay, Executive Director of the non-profit organisation Kulturbrücke Eurasia. Dedicated to fostering cultural dialogue between Europe and Central Asia, the evening was held with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Czech Republic and the local Kazakh community.
The programme brought together music, literature and visual art through works by Kazakhstani-German artist Alexander Dik. The musical programme showcased works by prominent figures of the Kazakh musical tradition, including Kurmangazy, Dauletkerey and Dina Nurpeisova, as well as compositions by Akhmet Zhubanov, Yevgeny Brusilovsky and Kuat Shildebayev. The pieces were performed by violinist Aiken Aitbay, accompanied by French pianist François Lambert, as well as by a dombra ensemble composed of Kazakhstani students currently studying in the Czech Republic.
The evening also included works of European classical music, including compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Claude Debussy. Poetry recitations from the works of Abai Kunanbayev, Magzhan Zhumabayev, Rakhmet Utesinov and Kyrgyz poet Alykul Osmonov were warmly received by the audience. The programme also included works by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, bringing together Kazakh, Kyrgyz and European literary traditions within a single event.
The evening was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, government institutions, business circles and civil society from the Czech Republic, Germany, Kazakhstan and other countries. Guests expressed particular appreciation to H.E. Peter Reuss, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Czech Republic, for his support of young talents and for providing a platform to present their work on an international stage.
Held in a warm and intimate atmosphere, the cultural event served as a prime example of cultural and people-to-people cooperation between Kazakhstan, Germany and the Czech Republic, and contributed to introducing Kazakh culture to a wider audience. Kulturbrücke Eurasia, led by Aiken Aitbay, intends to continue its work aimed at developing cultural and educational exchange between Europe and Asia.
