One of the largest international judo tournaments, “Qazaqstan Barysy Grand Slam 2026,” was held in Astana. Around 700 athletes from 36 countries competed for medals at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace, including Olympic champions and medalists, world champions, and top-ranked judokas.

A serviceman of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Private Zhalgas Kairolla, achieved an outstanding result at the prestigious international tournament. He serves as a rifleman in the operational purpose company of military unit 5511.

Competing in the under-81 kg weight category, the guardsman confidently advanced through his matches and won the tournament’s gold medal, taking first place in the individual standings.

It is worth noting that Private Zhalgas Kairolla is an International Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan in judo. He was drafted into military service in 2025 and is originally from the city of Semey in the Abai Region.

The victory of the law enforcement troops’ serviceman on the international stage became a vivid example of the high level of training of Kazakhstani athletes and demonstrated that National Guard servicemen достойно represent the country in elite sports.
