Metz, May 11, 2026 – During a working visit to the Grand Est region, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to France, Gulsara Arystankulova, met with the President of the Regional Council of Grand Est, Franck Leroy, and the Mayor of Metz, François Grosdidier, along with his deputies and advisors.

During the discussions, particular emphasis was placed on expanding cooperation in the fields of culture and education. It was noted that the opening of a branch of the University of Lorraine at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, focusing on "International Law," serves as a clear testament to the strategic partnership between the two nations and stands as one of the most significant educational projects in recent years.

The parties also discussed prospects for revitalizing cultural ties between Kazakhstan and the Lorraine region, including the possibility of showcasing Kazakhstani performing arts groups in Metz.

Furthermore, mutual interest was expressed in attracting investment, strengthening interregional connections, and developing mutually beneficial economic cooperation.

Following the meeting, both sides agreed to further develop the partnership across these key sectors.

A branch of the University of Lorraine, one of France's leading higher education institutions, was established at the Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University in May 2024. Currently, the branch offers dual-degree Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in international law. Furthermore, six educational programs are operational, including foreign language teacher training, international relations and diplomacy, management, finance, and marketing. Ninety-five targeted grants have been allocated for these programs.
