The Kazakhstan-Latvia Business Forum was attended by representatives of relevant government agencies, development institutions, and the business communities of both countries. They discussed ways to strengthen trade and economic partnerships and implement joint projects in the agro-industrial sector.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Yermek Kenzhekhanyuly emphasized that Latvia is a key and reliable partner of Kazakhstan within the European Union, possessing valuable experience in the food industry, deep processing, veterinary medicine, and the implementation of modern agricultural technologies.

He noted the continuing positive momentum in cooperation in the agricultural sector. Trade in agribusiness products between our countries in 2025 amounted to $51.4 million.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister paid particular attention to logistical cooperation and the transit of Kazakhstani crop products through the Baltic region.

Latvia’s ports remain a vital transport corridor for Kazakhstan. Last year, the total volume of cargo transported through Latvia’s ports amounted to 750,000 tons. Since the beginning of 2026, 250,000 tons have been exported.

Kazakhstan presented to its Latvian partners the opportunities for a large-scale modernization of its domestic agro-industrial complex, including the development of value-added processing and digitalization. Investors from Latvia were briefed on a range of government support measures, including investment subsidies, preferential financing, infrastructure, and incentives for the localization of export-oriented production.

The most promising areas for establishing joint ventures were identified as dairy and livestock farming, food production, the fishing industry, food storage and transportation, the development of logistics hubs, the introduction of innovative technologies, and the advancement of agricultural science.

Latvia’s experience in the field of veterinary safety and the training of qualified personnel for the agricultural sector is of particular interest.

Speakers at the forum included Janis Irbe, Parliamentary Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Climate and Energy; Dace Rutka, Latvian Ambassador to Kazakhstan; and Roman Abenov, Co-Chair of the Latvia-Kazakhstan Business Council.

The forum concluded with a series of direct B2B meetings between Kazakhstani and Latvian entrepreneurs, during which the parties discussed specific commercial contracts.
