Geneva, 2-4 June 2026 – The 18th Session of the Advisory Committee on Enforcement of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is currently taking place at WIPO Headquarters in Geneva, bringing together representatives of member states, international organizations, the judiciary, and experts in the field of intellectual property.
The delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan participating in the session is headed by Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Yerkin Ongarbayev and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization and International Economic Organizations Mr. Kairat Torebayev.
Addressing the Committee's plenary session, Constitutional Court Judge Ye.Ongarbayev emphasized that in the context of rapid digital transformation, the protection of intellectual property rights has become increasingly important for sustainable development and the advancement of innovation-driven economies. He noted that Kazakhstan continues to consistently strengthen its national intellectual property protection and enforcement system in line with international standards and global best practices.
Particular attention in his statement was devoted to the constitutional and legislative reforms undertaken in Kazakhstan. Notably, for the first time, the Constitution explicitly provides that intellectual property shall be protected by law. According to Judge Ongarbayev, this provision establishes a solid legal foundation for further strengthening the protection of the rights of authors, inventors, and rights holders.
The session participants were also informed about recent legislative developments in the field of intellectual property, including the introduction of an expedited trademark registration procedure, enhanced state oversight of copyright and related rights protection, and the implementation of digital tools aimed at increasing transparency in rights management and royalty distribution.
The Kazakh delegation highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation in enforcement matters, exchanging experiences among states, and fostering a culture of respect for intellectual creativity. On the margins of the session, Kazakhstan's representatives are holding meetings with international partners and experts to discuss emerging challenges related to intellectual property protection in the digital era.
Kazakhstan's participation in the 18th Session of the WIPO Advisory Committee on Enforcement reaffirms the country's commitment to strengthening an effective intellectual property protection system as a key driver of innovation, investment attractiveness, and sustainable economic growth.
