On June 1, the grand opening of the modern Almaly rehabilitation center for people with disabilities took place in Atyrau. This socially significant facility was commissioned as part of the implementation of the instructions of the Head of State, announced at the 4th meeting of the National Kuryltai.
The opening ceremony was attended by Akim of Atyrau Region Serik Shapkenov, government representatives, veterans, and residents of the region.
Construction of the new three-story center, with a total area of 22,000 square meters, began in 2023. The facility is designed to accommodate 150 people at a time, including children and adults. The opening of the center will significantly increase the volume of services provided: while previously approximately 1,100 people with special needs received rehabilitation care annually, now up to 2,300 patients will be able to receive comprehensive rehabilitation. Speaking at the ceremony, the regional governor noted that developing social infrastructure and supporting people with special needs remain among the priority areas of state policy.
"This center will provide comprehensive support to people with disabilities. The opening of such a socially significant facility is an important and joyful event for our region. This is another significant step towards creating an inclusive society in which everyone has equal opportunities. I express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the implementation of this project. I wish the team productive work and professional success, and the recipients of the services good health, strength, and a speedy recovery," Serik Shapkenov said.
The center provides comprehensive rehabilitation services to children aged 3 to 18 with musculoskeletal disorders, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, and other diagnoses. They are equipped with ABA therapy rooms, mechanotherapy rooms, sensory integration spaces, and occupational and art therapy workshops aimed at developing everyday and social skills.
Modern rehabilitation facilities have been created for adult service recipients, including those with Groups I and II disabilities. The center features physiotherapy rooms and a remedial gym with modern exercise equipment, a swimming pool, and a hydrotherapy complex.
As noted by Anar Kayupova, Director of the Almaly Center for Social Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, the facility's activities are organized into six main areas: social and everyday life, medical, psychological, pedagogical, social and occupational, and cultural.
"The center is equipped with modern equipment for comprehensive rehabilitation. An individualized recovery and social adaptation program is developed for each service recipient. To ensure high-quality services, 189 specialists work here, including doctors, nurses, psychologists, speech therapists, special education teachers, and other specialized staff," Kayupova said.
Today, more than 27,000 people with disabilities live in the Atyrau region. The opening of the Almaly Center marks a significant milestone for the region's social sector and another step in creating an accessible environment for people with special needs.
