A Representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Participated in the 35th Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

From May 31 to June 4, 2026, the 35th Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice was held in Vienna, Austria, bringing together representatives from more than 100 countries around the world.

The delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan included representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Penal Enforcement System Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan was represented at the international forum by First Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Colonel of Justice Niyaz Ryspaev.

During the plenary session, Mr. Ryspaev delivered a presentation entitled “From Punitive Systems to Rehabilitation: Modern Approaches to the Organization of Sentence Enforcement and the Resocialization of Offenders, the Experience of Central Asia and International Standards.” In his speech, he highlighted Kazakhstan’s ongoing efforts to ensure the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens held in correctional institutions, as well as measures being implemented to strengthen the principle of “Law and Order.”

Participants of the session discussed current issues related to crime prevention, the improvement of criminal justice systems, and the development of penitentiary services. Particular attention was paid to the prevention of offenses within correctional institutions, the introduction of digital technologies, and the use of artificial intelligence in the activities of penitentiary services.

The forum also provided a platform for the exchange of international experience, working meetings, and negotiations, during which representatives of various states discussed modern approaches to ensuring security, protecting human rights, and improving the effectiveness of public institutions.
