Today, Arman Shakkaliyev, Minister of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held a meeting with Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, a non-staff advisor to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a world-renowned expert in artificial intelligence, a Doctor of Computer Science (Ph.D.), and the founder of 01.AI.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for using artificial intelligence technologies for the digital transformation of trade, the development of domestic and foreign trade, e-commerce, and the improvement of data-driven public administration.
The Minister noted that, in accordance with the Concept of Trade Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2030, the Ministry is creating a unified digital trade ecosystem uniting the government, businesses, and consumers based on artificial intelligence. This approach will integrate digital services into a single environment, improve the efficiency of public administration, ensure the transparency of trade processes, accelerate decision-making, and create new opportunities for the development of domestic and foreign trade, e-commerce, and the promotion of non-resource exports.
During the meeting, Dr. Kai-Fu Lee presented modern approaches to the digital transformation of organizations using artificial intelligence. In particular, he noted the importance of moving from implementing individual AI solutions to building a unified, managed ecosystem based on data, intelligent analytics, and the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) principle, whereby each initiative is assigned a specific, responsible leader who is personally accountable for achieving results. They also discussed the use of artificial intelligence to improve public administration processes in trade, support decision-making, develop digital services, and enhance the efficiency of domestic and foreign trade.
The parties also discussed current global trends in artificial intelligence development, taking into account the findings of the Stanford AI Index Report 2026, which indicate that, given the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, one of the key challenges is their large-scale practical implementation in organizational activities. In this regard, they discussed approaches to the application of AI in public administration, the development of data-driven services, and the use of open AI models to solve applied problems.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in further cooperation on the implementation of modern 01.AI AI solutions in the trade sector, the exchange of expert knowledge, and determined the timeframe for training Ministry employees and the implementation of joint projects aimed at developing the digital economy and increasing Kazakhstan's competitiveness.
