Lausanne, July 6, 2026 – A landmark event for Kazakhstan took place at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. The jersey of Olympic champion Alexander Vinokurov was officially handed over to the museum's collection.
This is the first and only Kazakhstani jersey to be displayed at the Olympic Museum, one of the world's leading centers of Olympic history, where symbols of outstanding sporting victories and achievements of athletes from around the world are preserved.
The ceremony was held as part of the informal ministerial policy dialogue of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on the theme “Building Bridges: Innovation and Creativity as Drivers of the Society of the Future.” The discussion focused on how sport, innovation, creativity and international cooperation help unite countries, unlock human potential and create new opportunities for future generations.
Kazakhstan was represented at the event by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Sarsembayev, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and International Economic Organizations Kairat Torebayev, and Olympic champion Alexander Vinokurov.
For Kazakhstan, this day became truly historic. The story of Alexander Vinokurov's Olympic triumph will now be presented in a place where millions of people from around the world discover the legacy of the Olympic Games. It is a story of victory, strength of spirit and faith in one's country, a story that will remind museum visitors of Kazakhstan and the achievements of our athletes on the world stage.
Speaking in Lausanne, Alexander Vinokurov noted that sport teaches us to push the boundaries of what is possible, and that victory is never the result of one person's efforts alone. Behind every success stand a team, knowledge, technology, hard work and trust. He emphasized that Kazakhstan today places strong emphasis on knowledge, innovation and unlocking the potential of its citizens.
The Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the WTO notes that, for the first time, a Kazakhstani Olympic jersey has taken its place in the Olympic Museum, a museum that preserves the history of the global Olympic movement. For our country, this is an important symbol of international recognition and confirmation that Kazakhstani sport, Kazakhstani champions and the Kazakhstani flag hold a worthy place in world Olympic history.
