The Ministry of National Economy, based on data from the Bureau of National Statistics, analyzed the dynamics of real monetary incomes of the population in the first quarter of 2026.
According to the BNS, in the first quarter of 2026, the real monetary incomes of the population of Kazakhstan reached a positive trend for the first time in the last year. Compared to the same period last year, they increased by 0.1%.
The average per capita nominal monetary income of the population amounted to 252,619 tenge per month, which is 11.8% higher than in the first quarter of 2025. An important factor was the gradual slowdown in inflationary processes, in particular, the stabilization of consumer prices. It is worth noting that the annual inflation rate has been steadily slowing down since the beginning of the year and decreased to 10.3% in June this year.
Income from employment remains the main source of citizens' well-being, forming about two thirds of the total monetary income of the population. At the same time, the level of wages varies significantly across sectors of the economy.
According to the results of the first quarter of 2026, the average monthly nominal wage increased by 9.1%, and the real wage index was 97.7%. At the same time, the dynamics of wages varied significantly by type of economic activity.
The highest increase in average monthly wages compared to the same period last year was recorded in agriculture — by 20.3% (in real terms - by 7.7%), financial and insurance activities — by 18.1% (5.7%), transport and warehousing — by 12.9% (1.1%), manufacturing — by 14% (2.1%). This indicates that wages continue to grow faster in a number of industries, primarily the non-oil sector of the economy.
High rates of wage growth in the non-oil sector of the economy are important, as they reflect the gradual expansion of opportunities for increasing household incomes through the development of production, productivity growth and the creation of high-quality jobs.
The Ministry of National Economy notes that further steady growth in real incomes of the population remains one of the key objectives of the Government's economic policy. To this end, a comprehensive plan is being implemented to increase household incomes, which provides for a set of measures to increase wages, including a phased increase in the minimum wage, create high-quality jobs, increase labor productivity, support entrepreneurship and develop high-value-added industries. Combined with a further reduction in inflationary pressures, the implementation of these measures should ensure more sustainable growth in real incomes and improve the well-being of citizens.
In accordance with the Program of joint actions of the Government, the National Bank and the Russian Federation for 2026-2028, the target growth in real incomes of the population is at least 2-3% annually.
