Kazakhstan Calls for Further Strengthening of the Strategic Partnership between Central Asia and the European Union

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Arman Issetov participated in the 13th “Central Asia – European Union” High-Level Political and Security Dialogue.

The EU delegation was led by Olof Skoog, Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service (EEAS).

The meeting provided an opportunity for a substantive exchange of views on current issues of cross-regional cooperation, including the European Union’s programme activities in Central Asia. In particular, the participants reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached at the first Central Asia – European Union Summit held in Samarkand on 3-4 April 2025, as well as the Joint Roadmap for deepening ties between CA and the EU adopted in Luxembourg on 23 October 2023, with a particular focus on cooperation in the field of security. The delegations also considered the schedule of joint international events for 2026-2027.

The Kazakh diplomat briefed the participants on the current situation in the region, Kazakhstan’s efforts at both the national and regional levels to promote stability and sustainable development, and presented a number of constructive proposals aimed at further strengthening cross-regional cooperation in the political, economic and security areas.

The participants reaffirmed their mutual interest in further enhancing cooperation on border management, addressing regional challenges and threats related to terrorism and extremism, combating illicit drug trafficking, and expanding interagency cooperation among law enforcement authorities.

On the margins of the meeting, A. Issetov and O. Skoog held bilateral talks to discuss the current state and prospects of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union. Particular attention was devoted to the practical implementation of the agreements reached during the official visit of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Brussels on 22-23 June 2026.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union on the basis of mutual trust and equal partnership.
