In accordance with the Head of State's instruction to increase electricity production from renewable energy sources by 1.5 times, consistent efforts are being made to develop the industry. By the end of 2025, electricity generation from renewable energy facilities reached 8.6 billion kWh, representing 7% of the country's total electricity production, according to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan. For comparison, in 2022, electricity generation from renewable energy facilities amounted to 5.11 billion kWh, and their share in the overall energy balance was 4.5%. Thus, the Head of State's instruction has been fulfilled beyond the established target: electricity production from renewable energy sources has increased more than 1.7 times compared to 2022.
These results were made possible by a consistent state policy on the development of green energy. Key factors in this growth were the holding of auctions to select renewable energy projects, attracting investment in the industry, and the commissioning of new renewable energy facilities. In 2025, nine renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 503.5 MW were commissioned. This year, 10 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 245 MW are planned for implementation. Four wind power plants, five solar power plants, and one hydroelectric power plant are expected to be commissioned.
