Since the beginning of summer, 70 railway stations in Kazakhstan have reopened after extensive renovations, 40 of which were commissioned in July. These renovations are part of a program to reconstruct and modernize 124 railway stations across the country, which is being implemented at the direction of the Head of State, according to the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Both large regional stations and smaller stations were renovated as part of the modernization program. The largest volume of work was completed in the Akmola region, where 12 stations were modernized. In the Karaganda region, 11 facilities were renovated, including passenger platforms and infrastructure at the Karaganda-Sortirovochnaya station. Work also took place in the Atyrau, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Almaty, East Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Kostanay, Mangystau, Turkestan, and Zhambyl regions, as well as in the Zhetysu and Ulytau regions.

During the reconstruction, depending on the condition of the facilities, major repairs or the construction of new passenger terminals were carried out. At some stations, old buildings were demolished and new ones were built, while at others, station areas were increased, load-bearing structures were reinforced, concourses were erected, and passenger platforms and bus stops were reconstructed.

At all stations, roofs and facades were renovated, water supply, sewerage, heating, electricity, and communications systems were replaced, interior finishing was completed, and adjacent areas were landscaped. The buildings are equipped with modern furniture, navigation systems, ventilation and air conditioning systems, video surveillance, fire and security alarms, access control, introscopes, and walk-through metal detectors.

Particular attention has been paid to creating a barrier-free environment. The stations are equipped with ramps, elevators and lifts, tactile navigation, staff call buttons, restrooms, and information signs.

A number of facilities have significantly increased their floor area. For example, the Oral station has been expanded from 5,778 to 6,346 square meters, Shetpe from 201 to 1,090 square meters, Shalkar from 472.8 to 833.6 square meters, Kazybek Bek from 82.3 to 236.7 square meters, and Zhetysu from 135.7 to 258.3 square meters. A new, modern bus stop has been built at Akshi Station, and the passenger platform at Temirtau Station has been reconstructed.

The renovated stations serve tens of thousands of passengers daily and provide rail service between all regions of Kazakhstan, as well as with the Russian Federation, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.

Thanks to the renovations, the railway stations have become more comfortable, functional, and accessible for all categories of passengers, improving the quality of transport services and developing regional mobility.
