The main events were held at the monument to the great poet on Abai Avenue. Residents of the city, representatives of the public, cultural figures, and young people gathered here.

Regional Akim Askhat Shakharov took part in the flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Abai. On this day, residents of the region paid tribute to the memory of the great thinker, whose literary and philosophical legacy continues to influence the social and spiritual life of the country.

Addressing the participants of the event, the regional head highlighted the special role of Abai’s legacy in the upbringing of the younger generation.

“Abai is a great figure whose spiritual legacy is significant for all humanity. His works remain relevant to this day, passed down from generation to generation. Abai left us not simply words, but a life guide and a teaching based on morality and justice. Today, his legacy is of particular importance in educating young people and shaping the concept of the ‘Adal Azamat’ — an honest and responsible citizen. This is also the essence of the ‘Taza Kazakhstan’ initiative — respect for one’s city, the people around us, and our country, as well as a responsible attitude toward everything that surrounds us. Therefore, our task is to carefully preserve Abai’s legacy, pass it on to the younger generation, and put his teachings into practice,”

As part of the celebrations marking the 181st anniversary of the poet’s birth, a literary and musical program entitled “Abai — Wise, Abai — Unique in the Kazakh Nation” was held. Abai’s songs, including “Segiz Ayak,” “Kozimnin Karasy,” “Ayttym Salem, Kalamkas,” “Karangy Tunde Tau Kalgyp,” and other works, were performed on stage. The program also featured the theatrical production “Abai Amanaty” and lyrical compositions by the poet.

Children named Abai were given a special place in the program. Twenty young participants took to the stage and recited poems by the great poet. A traditional tusaukeser ceremony was held for two young boys named Abai. This moment became one of the warmest parts of the celebration, symbolically connecting the name of the great thinker with the new generation.

The celebration continued at thematic venues organized by the city’s libraries along the boulevard. Guests were welcomed by actors portraying Abai as a young man and as a wise elder, while members of the Poetry Theatre recited his works. Book exhibitions, poetry battles, intellectual games, quizzes, and literary meetings were prepared for residents. Special programs were also organized for children, teenagers, and young people.

The libraries also used modern technologies to introduce visitors to Abai’s legacy. One of the venues featured a QR route with his works in different languages, while his Words of Edification were presented through modern digital voice technology powered by artificial intelligence.

A separate venue featured a photographic chronicle of the Zhidebay-Borili Museum-Reserve, with photographs telling the story of Abai’s life and his circle. An inclusive program was organized for blind and visually impaired citizens, featuring books in Braille and audiobooks.

Sports activities included competitions and games in asyk atu, toghyzkumalak, and langi. At the children’s library, traditional games were combined with poetry readings and quizzes, demonstrating that learning about Abai’s legacy can be engaging and interactive.

Today, 87 streets in the Aktobe Region bear Abai’s name. As Askhat Shakharov noted, efforts to popularize the great thinker’s works and promote national values in the region will continue.

Abai Day in Aktobe demonstrated that his legacy continues to unite people of different generations: children recite his poems, his songs are performed on stage, and his ideas are becoming an integral part of the city’s contemporary cultural life.
