Brussels, 17 August 2025 – Kazakhstan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium Roman Vassilenko held a meeting with Katrijn Van Riet, Member of the Belgian Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives and the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The discussion focused on the ongoing political reforms in Kazakhstan, the implementation of the new Constitution, and the upcoming elections to the new unicameral Parliament – the Quryltai on 23 August, 2026.

The Ambassador briefed his counterpart on the key outcomes of the constitutional reform approved at the nationwide referendum on 15 March 2026 and emphasized the significance of the upcoming elections as an important milestone in the country’s political modernization.

Katrijn Van Riet positively assessed the reforms underway in Kazakhstan, noting the importance of strengthening democratic institutions, the rule of law, and the transparency of the electoral process.

Particular attention was given to K. Van Riet’s upcoming visit to Kazakhstan as a member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly election observation mission. The parties also discussed prospects for further strengthening Kazakhstan-Belgium interparliamentary cooperation and developing cooperation between Kazakhstan and the European Union.
