Once, he walked the world’s fashion runways and presented collections by renowned brands. Today, Shyngys Tanatpayev wears a military uniform and is completing his compulsory military service in the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, fulfilling his civic duty to his country.

Private Shyngys Tanatpayev, a serviceman of Military Unit 5451 in Karaganda, began his modeling career at the age of 17. His tall stature and striking appearance opened the door to the fashion industry and gave him the opportunity to appear on international runways. He presented collections by the renowned French fashion house Pierre Cardin, as well as the Italian brands Federico Barrazzo and Sauvage Multi, taking part in fashion shows in various countries around the world.

Today, instead of the runway, there is the parade ground, and the confident stride of a model has been replaced by the measured step of a serviceman. At first glance, a modeling career and military service may seem completely unrelated. Yet they share qualities such as discipline, composure, and responsibility. While confidence in front of an audience is essential on the runway, military service requires responsibility in every action and precise execution of assigned tasks.

Today, the National Guard serviceman contributes to maintaining public order and safety in Karaganda. Every day, he diligently performs his military duty, helps maintain public order during mass events and in crowded places, and interacts directly with residents, providing assistance in various situations.

For example, the serviceman has helped locate children who became separated from their parents and reunite them with their families. On several occasions, his assistance also helped residents recover valuable belongings they had lost.

Today, more than 7,000 National Guard servicemen provide public-order protection every day in 21 cities across the country. In Karaganda, more than 250 servicemen are involved in these tasks on a daily basis.
